What Is SaveFrom?

SaveFrom is a video downloader that supports multiple video sites.

Based on footer credits and WHOIS records, it has been in operation since 2008 — putting it among the older services in the video downloader space.

Early versions of the site had a noticeably minimal design.

Comparing that to the current layout makes the site's long history apparent. Browsing early versions and screenshots from around 2015 also reveals Russian text throughout the interface, suggesting the operators are native Russian speakers.

How to Use SaveFrom

There's a URL input field at the top of the SaveFrom homepage. Enter the URL of the video page and submit, and you'll be shown the video details along with a dropdown to select the file format and quality.

Choose your preferred format and quality, then click the download button to get the file.

The core flow of pasting a URL and submitting is the same as Offliberty, but SaveFrom adds a confirmation step before conversion — letting you verify you've got the right video and choose your preferred quality and format. This makes it a good fit if you want audio-only or don't need the highest resolution.

If you'd rather skip the extra steps and just download quickly without worrying about quality, Offliberty is the more direct option.

The SaveFrom Browser Extension Is No Longer Available

SaveFrom previously offered a browser extension that added a download button directly on video pages for quick, convenient saving.

However, the extension has since been removed from extension stores and can no longer be installed. The fact that SaveFrom's own site still references the unavailable extension suggests the service isn't being actively maintained.

How SaveFrom Downloads Videos

Looking at the download URLs SaveFrom generates, they vary depending on the video site. Some examples:

  • https://media.sf-converter.com/get?__sig=xxx&__expires=xxx&uri=xxx&filename=xxx&ua=xxx&referer=xxx
  • https://dl.sf-converter.com/download/xxx
  • https://proxy-tt.services-1dd.workers.dev/download/?payload=xxx

This suggests the server identifies the video site from the submitted URL and routes processing accordingly. The fact that download URLs differ per site points to SaveFrom having built out custom logic and API integrations for each platform over the years.

Things to Watch Out For

SaveFrom sometimes only offers low-quality downloads.

For example, if the video you want is 8K, or the runtime is several hours long, you may find that high-resolution, high-quality options simply aren't available.

This is largely unavoidable given that SaveFrom is a free tool and its server-side processing carries real costs. If you need the best quality for large-screen viewing, you'll want to look at other tools.
